The Great Wall Can't Be Seen From Space After All
Contrary to popular belief, the Great Wall of China isn't visible from space without aids.
This might come as a surprise given the wall’s length, extending over 13,000 miles.
The myth has been propagated by an array of sources and people, including Richard Halliburton in his book Second Book of Marvels - stating it's the only man-made object visible from the moon, and even in textbooks.
However, science says otherwise.
The wall, being narrow and built of materials that blend with the natural landscape, isn't easily distinguishable from space.
According to Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield who lived on the International Space Station, the resolution of the human eye is not enough to see the Great Wall from that distance without aid.
In fact, many other man-made objects such as cities, airports, and roads are actually far more visible from space!.
