The Power of Mantis Shrimp
The mantis shrimp, a small marine crustacean, is famous for its powerful claws which it uses to hunt prey.
Interestingly, these claws can strike with a speed equivalent to a .22 caliber bullet and are so powerful that they can crack the glass of an aquarium.
However, the real magic is not just in the speed and power, but it's also in the shrimp's ability to see a world of color beyond our comprehension.
Mantis shrimp have 16 types of color receptors in their eyes, compared to the three types humans have.
This means they have the most complex eyesight of any known creature and are able to perceive a wide spectrum of colors, including ultraviolet light.
Sadly, while they can see a multitude of colors, evidence suggests they may not perceive them in the detailed way humans do.
Isn't nature mysterious and amazing?.
