The Indestructible Water Bear

Did you know about Tardigrades, or 'Water Bears'? They are tiny, water-dwelling creatures that can survive in extremely hostile environments that would be deadly for most life forms.

They can endure temperature ranges from -458 degrees Fahrenheit (absolute zero) to 304 degrees, pressures about 6 times greater than those found in the deepest ocean trenches, lethal levels of radiation, high desiccation, and even the vacuum of outer space.

Beyond this, they can go up to 30 years without food or water by entering an almost death-like state called cryptobiosis.

Remarkably, they are found all over Earth from the highest mountains to the deepest seas.

Scientists believe understanding their adaptations could help us learn more about potential life on other planets..
