The Immortal Jellyfish
In the vast expanse of the ocean, a tiny creature dubbed the 'Immortal Jellyfish' is challenging our perception of life expectancy.
The Turritopsis dohrnii, a species of jellyfish native to the Mediterranean and the waters of Japan, is literally able to reverse its aging process.
Once it reaches a certain stage of growth or in response to physical harm or stress, this jellyfish can return its cells to their earliest form, effectively becoming a 'child' again.
This process of cell transformation includes altering specialized cells back to a stem-cell like state.
This means the jellyfish can undergo endless cycles of life, death, and rebirth, making it biologically immortal.
This doesn’t mean, however, that the Turritopsis dohrnii is invincible.
It can still be killed by disease, or become prey to other species.
But barring these dangers, it has the potential to live indefinitely, an astounding phenomena in nature..
