The Great Emu War of Australia

In 1932, Australia faced a crisis unlike any other: an invasion of emus.

A flock of emus migrated into the Campion region of Western Australia, devastating crops and creating havoc among local farmers.

In response, the Australian government declared a war, known as 'The Great Emu War'.

Despite deploying soldiers armed with machine guns, the emus proved to be formidable opponents.

Over the course of the war, an estimated 20,000 emus rampaged through Western Australia, while the armed forces were only able to bring down around 1,000.

By the time military assistance was withdrawn on December 10, 1932, the emus had won.

This caused widespread public and political debate over the war's effectiveness and necessity.

Today, the Great Emu War is remembered as a unique and bizarre episode in Australian history..
