The Chameleon's Amazing Tongue
Chameleons are creatures famous for their ability to change colors to blend in with their environment.
But there's something even more extraordinary about these little reptiles - their super-fast, ultra precise tongues.
Would you believe a chameleon's tongue can move at an astonishing speed of roughly 60 mph? In less than a second, a chameleon can stretch its tongue to more than twice its body length to catch prey.
And how do they do this? They use a special bone called the hyoid, located in their throat, which acts as a launching pad.
The tongue is catapulted out in a loop around the hyoid bone at an incredible pace, thanks to their highly elastic tissues and powerful muscles.
This lightning-fast, pinpoint-accurate attack helps chameleons snatch their prey before it even realizes what's happening..
